Overview
José Javier Briz Kaltenborn is a partner with the Firm and Head of the Corporate Group. He regularly advises clients on matters of labor, corporate, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions and real estate law and has specialties in franchising and intellectual property law. His representation of industrial and marketing companies in a full scope of corporate matters, ranging from formation to mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, extends to companies in the energy, hospitality, aviation, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, reinsurance, insurance, and automotive industries, amongst others. He also represents diplomatic and consular entities in various employment and real estate matters.
Javier is a member of the legal and labor committees of various chambers of commerce in Venezuela. He previously served as the director of the Venezuelan-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and the Venezuelan-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He routinely lectures on matters relating to general corporate law, intellectual property, and franchising in various universities and institutions, including Santa María University, Monte Ávila University, the Catholic University of Táchira, the Academy of Political and Social Sciences, the Venezuelan Association of Franchises, the Bar Association of Carabobo, and binational chambers of industry and commerce across the country. Javier was previously a professor at the International Center for Professional Updating and at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello.
Prior to joining the Firm, he was in-house counsel at a large German pharmaceutical company and a large German Reinsurance company in Caracas, Venezuela. He is a graduate of the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello.
